Sell silver
in Reading.

Sterling silver jewellery you no longer wear. Odd pieces that have lost their partner. Silver that has been in a drawer for years. Bring it to Nash & Co on Bridge Street in Caversham and talk to a jeweller about selling it.

A useful first step

Bring the whole piece.

  1. Silver jewellery, with or without hallmarks
  2. Any matching pieces, boxes or paperwork
  3. A note of anything you know about where it came from

Even a broken strand gives us something to start with.

Selling silver

Silver is worth looking at properly.

We buy silver alongside gold and platinum, and we look at the piece as well as the metal.

Silver is a lower-value metal than gold by weight, which is why some buyers only want it in quantity. A jeweller looks differently. A hallmarked sterling silver bracelet, a well-made older piece or a maker’s design may be worth more as jewellery than as scrap, and we consider that when we discuss an offer.

Bring your pieces into the shop. We look at hallmarks and marks such as 925, the condition and the workmanship, and explain how an offer would be assessed. Unmarked pieces can still be looked at, so do not leave something behind because you are unsure what it is.

If you have silverware, cutlery, coins or a larger quantity of silver, call before you travel and describe what you have. We will tell you whether it is something we can help with or suggest where to go next.

Silver jewellery

Chains, bracelets, bangles, rings and earrings in sterling silver, hallmarked or marked 925. Broken clasps and odd earrings are worth bringing.

Older & designer pieces

Victorian and twentieth-century silver, maker-marked jewellery and unusual designs are looked at for what they are, not just what they weigh.

Silverware & coins

Describe what you have before making a journey. Some items are better suited to a specialist dealer, and we will say so.

Your questions

Before you decide.

Do you buy silver jewellery?
Yes. We buy silver alongside gold, platinum and fine jewellery. Bring the pieces to the shop so they can be assessed in person.
How much is sterling silver worth?
Scrap silver is priced by weight against the day’s silver price, and the figure per gram is much lower than gold. A piece of silver jewellery can be worth more than that if it is well made, old or by a known maker. We look at both before discussing an offer.
Does my silver need a hallmark?
No. Hallmarks and 925 marks help, but unmarked pieces can still be looked at. Bring everything you have and we will tell you what we can see.
Do you buy silver coins, cutlery or silverware?
Call the shop and describe the items before you travel. Some silverware and coins are better placed with a specialist dealer, and we will tell you honestly if that applies.
Can I sell gold and silver in the same visit?
Yes. Bring everything together and keep any paperwork with the relevant piece. See our separate page on selling gold and jewellery for what to expect.
