Jewellery remodelling.
Keep what matters.

An inherited ring that is not your style. A stone you love in a setting you never wear. Bring the piece to our Caversham shop and talk about what you would like it to become.

Jewellery remodelling

The starting point is already yours.

A new design can give a treasured stone a different place in your life.

Remodelling begins with the jewellery you already own. Remounting explores a different setting for an existing stone. Both start with looking at the whole piece, its condition and the parts you would like to keep.

Tell us what matters most: the original stone, the appearance of the piece, a detail you associate with its previous owner, or simply being able to wear it comfortably. These are useful starting points for the conversation about a design.

Reusing a stone or metal depends on its suitability for the proposed work. Bring everything together, including any loose stones or old settings, so the options can be discussed before you make a decision. If preserving the original design is your priority, ask us about restoration too.

Inherited jewellery

Keep the details that have meaning for you while exploring a design that suits the way you dress and live now.

A different setting

Discuss the proportions, height and style of a setting, and how an existing stone might be worn in another way.

Several possibilities

You do not need a finished drawing. A few photographs and a clear idea of what you do or do not like can start the conversation.

Your questions

Before you decide.

Can an inherited ring be made into something different?
It may be possible to use suitable stones in a different design or setting. We first need to inspect the ring and discuss what you want to keep. The condition of its stones and metal affects the available options.
Can you use all of the original gold?
Do not assume every material can be reused in the way you have in mind. Bring the piece for assessment and tell us if keeping its original metal is particularly important to you. Suitability needs to be discussed before a design is agreed.
How is remodelling different from restoration?
Remodelling changes the design or setting so the jewellery can be worn differently. Restoration considers work to care for the existing piece and retain its character. Which approach suits you depends on the jewellery and what you want to preserve.
Is remodelling cheaper than buying new jewellery?
There is no useful universal comparison. Design work, materials, the condition of the original piece and the work involved all affect the cost. Discuss a proposed design and budget with the shop before committing.
Can I start the conversation before travelling to Reading?
Yes. Call or send an enquiry describing the piece and what you would like to change. This helps you prepare for a visit; the jewellery will still need to be examined before the work can be confirmed.
